Do You Text & Drive?

Today, along I-595, I saw Verizon's new billboard. It had four words on it: "Don't text while driving." It reminded me of the tobacco campaigns to stop smoking; the booze campaigns to not drink and drive. The billboard struck me with the realization that texting while driving is as toxic and fatal. I am a terrible texter-driver. Lately, as the awareness is being raised, so is my conviction level!

I never text while I'm driving. If there's a txt that can't wait, I pull over. Not so much for saftey's sake, but because I can't walk and chew gum simultaneously, it follows that neither can I txt and drive at the same time. LOL

I rarely text..but if I do, I do it at a red light & make them short and sweet.

Guilty as charged. I have been wrestling with this for sometime now. If my kids r in the car I'll ask them to reply for me but otherwise yes I need to stop asap.

the first question the police officer asked my daughter after her recent car accident was 'were you talking on the phone or TEXTING at the time of the collision'... HHHMMMM... (good thing her phone wasn't in her car at the time)

It's a pull of the skin to look at the phone and not pick it up, to text, check e-mails, or check something on the web or a FB status. I challange myself to leave it in my purse/pocket. Sometimes I reach for it out of habbit. But I've been good at resisting the urge. I am 1 million percent against drinking and driving, the bad thing is that drunks are trying to pay attention to the road and are unable to. Texters are flat out Not paying attention!! Accidents happen in the blink of an eye and if I was ever a contribution to the loss of life, I couldn't live with that. Whatever it is on that phone isn't more important than life. Thanks for baring yourself and allowing me to confess a struggle in a "safe" place. xoxo
