Then one day I realized I was losing a fight with the devil by having that logic. So I prayed about it, bought a 1-year bible & read it every day for a year. That was 7 yrs ago. I've been reading it daily every since. Sometimes I miss, but after developing it as a habit, I really hate it when I do.
Pardon the cheese, but...we can't call God on our flip-phones; however we can hear God when we flip thru these pages.

What a beautiful post. You are such an inspiration to so many of us!
God bless you!

I'm reading the Bible in chronological order this year so I'll be flipping around but it'll help me put events into better perspective particularly in the OT. I find that the Bible gets easier to read and understand the more often I read it. For instance the first time I read Job it was just words on a page but now it's my favorite book. I also keep a commentary handy so when I read a passage that I don't understand, like Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord, I can get a better perspective.
I read the whole Bible in two years because I felt that I really wanted to dive in deep into it with my John MacArthur Study Bible. It was one of the best things I have done because I learned so much about it. I even touched upon the whole concept of cracking open our Bibles, especially when we are leaders or serving in the Church in my last blog post.
Thank you so much with this post. I completely agree with the person above me, you truly are an inspiration.

Heather, I still feel like I'm reading backwards. Esther and I didn't see eye to eye on Sun, or Mon, but Tuesday, I GOT it/her. It was so amazing to actually read a chapter and understand it. I feel so powerful knowing and understanding what I'm reading in the "book". Thank you for helping me reach my God/Bible potential. I got a 1 year devotional bible for Christmas and I read it everyday!!

i always thought of the Bible as this decorative book sitting on people's coffee table. i never read it. i did read other books by Christian authors who referenced text in the Bible so over the past few years God used those same Christian preachers with their charismatic, creative teaching style to show me how important reading the Bible is and the journey it can take me on. i’ve started and haven’t stopped cause it’s a really cool book. i’m not legalistic about reading the Bible cause it kills the fun so i just go where i feel like i’m being lead and read until i am feed. i miss some days too but as you said when you pray and develop a habit of reading daily, you hate when you miss it.
Hey Heather - Great Post! I never really thought about when I started reading the Bible for its intended purpose until I read this post. I took several Bible courses in college but I only read it to pass the quizzes and exams. It was much later when I realized that it was actually a manual that would direct my life and help me reach my God Potential ("when all else fails - read the directions"). Of course, there are words and verses in the Bible that give me comfort and reassure me when I need it the most. There is still alot in the Bible I don't understand but that is why I've always ejoyed Bible Studies with people who do understand it. Thanks for making me think.

For me, reading/studying the Bible took on a whole new life after I made the decision to be obedient and get Baptised in Sept 06 {@ FRC} and made the commitment to do things His way...In Oct/Nov 06 Troy was doing a series {can't remember what it was now} and challenged us to fast & pray..I decided to commit to doing that for the 5 weeks..I can't even begin to tell you how the Lord opened up His Word to me..Quickend my knowledge. Constant downloading of information..I couldn't wait to open the Bible to see what new thing He was going to reveal to me that day..
I had started to become lax in the last few months about reading everyday but for 09 i've re-commited to reading/studying.. I like to pray before I open up the Bible, ask Him to guide me to what He knows I need to be reading..After all Abba knows best.. :-)
I still you my Teen Study Bible...
There is where we can find all the answers. It's funny, you could read one verse today and get something from it, then read it again in a month and get a totally different lesson.
If you don't get it, keep reading ;)
