Heatherater the Exaggerator

Last week in some meeting, I voiced this fatal mistake: "EVERYBODY leases a car." So a certain-somebody in the room decided to put my everybody-proclamation to the test. And in that room of 10 everybodies, there was 1 who leased a car. Nice. It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's Heatherater the Exaggerator! Man, I hate it when she shows up. What are some signs that she has? Words or phrases like: "EVERYBODY," "YOU ALWAYS," "NOBODY EVER," "I'LL NEVER," "THERE 'S A TON," "I'M STARVING," "I'M DYING," and "THERE'S A MILLION." The list goes on. Here's two unarguable reasons not to exaggerate: 1. "Too much talk leads to sin." (Prov. 10:19) 2. Jesus never did. So whattaya do? Well, after last week's huge, embarrassing debacle, I started praying an unexaggerated prayer that goes like this, "God, let my words be true, amen." Amen? Amen.

Ouch! Ya got me. Although, I have NEVER leased a car, I ALWAYS proclaim loudly and clearly my pronouncements. How many times must I be reminded to halt the use of NEVER and ALWAYS and think to use less judgmental words?

I think that should be the prayer of every Christian. Great post!

Sally, I am honored that you stopped by AND shared your wisdom. Thanks.

Pris - Thanks for your affirmation. And great job being "Pink" this weekend!

Love the title!

I confess, I too find myself using those types of words more than necessary or prudent. For me, it's kinda like using the not so nice sorta words I used as a teen. Like an exclamation point... an excitement or interest builder.... I hate to admit it, but really I guess it's just another way to say heyyyyy listen to me!

It's on my radar now... thanks for the insight and wisdom! I'll be praying right along with you!

Her - I am catching up reading your site this afternoon. My husband points out my exaggerations all the time as it drives him nuts. And I don't even realize it when it comes out of my mouth. Thanks for the scripture to back it up maybe that will help me overcome. I have stopped using "starving" since I am not where near so thats a start. Oh and btw I lease cars.
