My Thoughts on My Weight

It was my first year in college, and I had become indifferent and careless about eating and exercise. Consequently, I went from a size 10 to a size 14/16. That year was as a rude awakening with my weight, since then, I've stayed awake to it. Some thoughts:
1. I pray alot that God give me the discipline to eat right, to help my family eat right, and to exercise. I pray because my body is God's house, so I need God to be the master of it.
2. I don't keep crap in our house. If junk food isn't in our house, it can't be in our mouths.
3. I do some kind of exercise everyday. I'm in a tough season right now. I have two boys who get up at 6:15am and require my attention til 8pm. So 2 hours of daily exercise just ain't happenin' - but even if its just 15 min. of yoga, it's something. And God knows my heart...and this season.
4. I do keep a scale in my bathroom. Because I do have the propensity to gain weight, I want to be responsible and proactive with my weight. I have a range and I want to stay in it.

5. Desserts are a huge weakness for me. Lately, I've been trying to stay away from them completely. Substitutes that seem to be working are: chewing gum, drinking something hot, and not keeping them in the house.
6. Lately, I've felt convicted about never eating breakfast, that nudge set in when DJ asked me why he has to eat breakfast, but I don't. So as much as it makes me gag, I'm really trying to start my day with breakfast.

Well, those are my thoughts. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but if you are, please send some expertise this way!

GOD CREATED OUR TONGUES TO BE ABLE TO TASTE IT ..THE KEY WORD IS BALANCE ! KEEP HEALTHY EATING A PRIORITY BUT HAVE A LITTLE SWEET ONCE IN AHWILE ..JUST DON'T ABUSE IT .. THOSE WHO CANNOT HAVE A LITTLE SWEET HAVE SUAGR FREE !ANYTING WE OVER DO BECOMES LIKE AN IDOL IN OUR LIFE ....KEEP BALANCE..WE CAN'T ALL AFFORD TO "JOIN THE GYM" ..GO FOR A WALK DAILY .. I'm definitely not an expert, but this is an area that I struggle with so much!! I was always a size 8 until 8 years ago when that size doubled. I haven't been able to get back to a healthy weight and my health and energy show it. I know that God wants me to be healthy...how else can I serve His body? So this is something I'm working diligently on. I also have a daughter that struggles with not wanting to eat...so we have both ends of the spectrum in our house. Definitely a challenge, but not too big for my God.

Ginger, your view of God, as it pertains to your image, is SO awesome. He will bless this in your home...you go, girl!

Heather, you've touched on something so many of us women go through daily. For YEARS these thoughts consumed my life. Until my recent 30 pound weight loss, I would diet/binge. I went through bulima, laxitive abuse, tried every diet pill on the market. Now I have completly changed my eating. I eat breakfast at 7:00am everyday. Then throughout the day I eat something every 3 hours. This keeps your blood sugars level and help to prevent that drop that leaves you with those unwanted cravings. Alot of protein, almonds are a great snack. I alway keep a handful in my purse. Also, like you said, chewing gum. Everyone has to remember, we all have the power within us to over power the enemy when it comes to food and our bodies. My husband and I now run 3 miles 5=6 times a week. The cardi allows me to have the things I love in moderation. And the exercise also helps cut the cravings. My 2 1/2 year old goes in the jogger, my 12 year old rides his bike and we make it a family event. Thanks Heather for sharing something so many of us keep hidden. Kristin Deedrick

after recovering from an eating disorder, I decided to take the word diet out of my vocabulary. I try to think of it as healthy eating / healthy living....if you eat healthy and have healthy habits, your body will find its balance, which has nothing to do with a number on the scale...

Nutritionists can give you all sorts of healthy, cool, fun, food options that will work best for you.

peace, hope and love,

Found you through SWERVE. :)

As far as breakfast goes, I didn't eat it regularly until I went to college. These days, one of my favorite and easy things to eat is Kellogg's All Bran Bars.

They are pretty healthy: only 130 calories, 10% of your daily iron, and 20% (!) of your daily fiber--which keeps you feeling full longer. AND--the best part--(coming from a fellow sweet-tooth), they are just like a Rice Krispie treat! :)

I prefer the Honey Oat kind, but they also make Oatmeal Raisin and Brown Sugar Cinnamon.

These are perfect for a breakfast on the go or a pick-me-up, as they stash well in a purse or glove compartment.
